Thursday, October 30, 2008 / 7:07 PM
Today, B flew to Tokyo for a business trip.
It hasn't been a day but I already miss him so much.
Without B, I feel so naked and vulnerable.
NECKTIESI picked up B's suit from the dry-cleaners.
Then I helped B pack his long sleeve polos and neckties.
JIMTOFB was invited again to the International Machine Tool Fair.
It will be held at Japan's largest exhibition center, Tokyo Big Sight.
It will be an affair of businessmen and engineers.

The Carousel
Wednesday, October 29, 2008 / 8:45 AM
After the Halloween party, I took Sophie on a carousel ride. As the horses and royal carriages went round and round, B stood by the railings watching us prance by. :)

Pumpkin Patch Party
Tuesday, October 28, 2008 / 8:26 AM
The spooky month of October is all about
Trick or Treat!
B and I took Sophie to the
Pumpkin Patch Party at
Gymboree.
PRINCESS SOPHIESophie wore a fairytale princess costume with a petticoat.
She has a tiara on her little head too.
Sophie certainly charmed Daddy and Mommy. :)
HAPPY PRINCESSIsn't she so adorable?
Just look at that irresistible smile.
How can anyone just pass her by? :)
ROCK N' RIDEThis is Sophie's favorite toy in
Gymboree.
She would climb up on her own and rock herself back and forth. :)
SNACK TIMEHotdogs, marshmallows, sandwiches, and popcorns awaited the hungry kids.
Sophie sat on one of the little chairs and ate hotdogs. :)
TRICK OR TREATThen it was time for
Trick or Treat!!!Sophie got a handful of chocolates and candies from
Gymbo. :)
It was such a happy and delightful family experience. B and I watched and guided Sophie as she participated in the Halloween activities. To see our little princess looking for pumpkins in the tunnels and under the bridge warmed our hearts and made us smile. To see our little princess eating hotdogs and marshmallows on her own made me look back at the times when I had to feed her patiently just to make sure she is eating enough. To see our little princess having so much fun exploring with other children made us realize that Sophie will soon have friends of her own and leave our side. Time flies so fast. In the middle of all the work and the chores, B and I suddenly realized how much Sophie has grown over the year. I felt a certain sadness when I think of how my little baby is growing up so fast. Will she soon shy away when I ask her to kiss Mommy? I'd hate to think that. The wonderful moments we share together as a family will soon be memories engraved in the past. And the best I can do now is to live each day of my life composing many more wonderful moments that will soon be timeless memories with my little Sophie. And then I will have something beautiful to look back on. :)

KFC
Saturday, October 25, 2008 / 6:58 AM
Since I started working, I'm back to eating fast food.
And I'm loving it before I get tired of it. :)
KFCWhen I was a little girl, my mom would pick me up from school and take me to a chicken house called, Kentucky Fried Chicken, for an afternoon treat. I even get to choose if I wanted rice or roll with my fried chicken. But all of a sudden, it cut short it's classic name to simply... KFC. Can anyone tell me why? Is this part of some marketing strategy aimed to create a new image for my favorite chicken house? I just miss the good ol' days. Well, the name certainly changed... But thank God the chicken and the gravy never changed after all these years. :)* * * * *

Steamed Tiger Prawns
Friday, October 24, 2008 / 2:35 AM
Whenever I attend Chinese weddings and birthdays at Gloria Maris, I always look forward to my favorite lauriat entree. That is, Steamed Tiger Prawns. With some free time in my hands, I decided to recreate it at my own kitchen.

STEAMED TIGER PRAWNSI bought half a kilo of fresh catch tiger prawns at Unimart. After cutting open the prawns, I stuffed each prawn with crushed garlic, minced ginger, pinches of salt, and topped them with spring onions. I also poured a quarter cup of light soy sauce. Then I put the prawns in the steamer. After a few minutes, the prawns were cooked and ready to be served. Opening the lid of the steamer, the delicous aroma of garlic, ginger, and fresh seafood escaped and filled the entire kitchen. B was surprised to see what I served for dinner that night. Even if he was allergic, B delightfully ate the prawns. When I tried it myself, I was surprised at how tasty and delicious these prawns are. Pride aside, I figured that I'm getting good in the kitchen. This would definitely be part of our family recipe. :)

Sophie's Art Class
Wednesday, October 22, 2008 / 7:05 PM
At Teacher Rain's art class, Sophie was taught how to paint. :)
ART CLASSMATESThere are 4 girls in Sophie's art class -Bella, Bianca, and Apple. Daughter of a fashion model, Bella always comes to playschool with full make-up. She truly is a model in the making. Bianca is a chubby little girl who enjoys painting as much as eating. Apple is a refined Korean girl who loves storytelling. And Sophie, the smallest princess in the class, is the only leftie among the girls. After being introduced to the class, art classes began. :)
ART CLASSHolding the paintbrush with her left hand and the palette on her right, Sophie started painting and exploring with different colors. Teacher Rain taught her how to mix red and blue to make a new color, purple, which is mommy's favorite color. After painting on the wall, Sophie painted and decorated her own Halloween mask. The mask was made out of a paper plate with eyes that were cut-out. Sophie and her classmates got to bring home their artwork for daddy and mommy to see. Of course, B was proud and happy of his daughter's work. :)

Green Tomato.
GREEN TOMATOWhenever we crave for Italian food,
Green Tomato is the place to eat.
B and I are such loyal customers that the waiters already know us. :)
HANS & FRANZB ordered Hungarian sausages for us.
The sausages are served with potato salad and foccacia bread.
I loved the juicy and meaty sausage. :)
DULONGI ordered a very Filipino pasta dish called
Dulong.
This pasta is cooked with local fish fry, chili, and capers.
It's so delicious. I absolutely loved it. :)
FOUR CHEESEThis is our favorite pizza in the whole world!

Roast Duck Rice
Monday, October 20, 2008 / 2:20 AM
ROAST DUCK RICEB and I brought home the leftover food from Choi Garden. B especially told me that he'd like to eat the roasted duck for lunch tomorrow. He instructed me to steam the roasted duck over the rice inside the steamer. B wanted the roasted duck's oil to drip all over the rice to add flavor and fragrance into it. And so I followed Chef B's command. When it was time to open the steamer, the fragrance of our Jasmine rice cooked with the flavorful oil of the roasted duck filled our kitchen. Voila! Such delicious aroma that made B leave his laptop at once and join me at the table for lunch right away. I never thought leftover food can be this delicious. :)

Choi Garden
Saturday, October 18, 2008 / 2:18 AM
Later that night, B invited me to have dinner at Choi Garden.
He was entertaining some business guests from China. :)
MANTOU
FISH LIPS SOUPB ordered a lot of the house specialties namely the Crispy Fried Pigeon (which had to be ordered in advance), Roasted Duck, Stewed Crab Singaporean Style, Baguio Pechay with Sliced Ham, Taro Fried Rice, and Curry Beef Belly in Pot. These Chinese dishes, prepared and cooked by Cantonese chefs, were absolutely delicious. I wanted to take photos of these Chinese dishes but coz I was helping B entertain his guests, I needed to act mature and professional. And so after taking a few shots, I decided to keep my camera and just feast on these delicious oriental food. From the looks of their faces, the guests from China seemed to enjoy their dinner at Choi Garden. :)

First Day at Gymboree
Friday, October 17, 2008 / 4:00 AM
Today, I went to
GYMBOREE not as a parent or a customer, but as a teacher.
GYMBO
GYMPLAYThere's Sophie playing in the children's gym. There are slides, tunnels, hoolas, and seasaws for the little tots.It develops motor skills and encourages critical thinking.Since I'm still a trainee, I had to sit in and observe a couple of music and art classes. Then I was oriented about the different classes and activities being offered in
Gymboree. I met and made friends with other teachers like Teacher Ces and Rain who are really sweet and kind. Gymboree at the Manila Polo Club is quite laid back on weekdays. But this bright and colorful place never fails to lift my mood and make me smile. The babies and tots are just so adorable. I absolutely love working in this fun and happy place. Just seeing all those children takes away all my stress. In this happy haven, it's as if frowning is a sin. :)* * * * *

My Lunch Box
Thursday, October 16, 2008 / 3:16 AM
Now that I'm working inside the country's most prestigious sports club of which I am not a member of, I realized that I can't even order food without a Polo Club Card. Well, not as if I can afford to eat in their fine dining restaurants on a regular basis. I would be broke. And because I also refuse to walk all the way to the canteen, I started to prepare my own lunch at home and take it with me to the playschool. Yes, I figured that if I really want to save my own money, I have to start being economical. Don't be surprised! This is the new me. :)
LUNCH BAGThat's my pretty lunch bag.
Inside, I have my home-made
Pasta Carbonara.
I also sneaked in a small bag of
Cheetos Puffs. :)
PASTA CARBONARAI cooked my all-time favorite Pasta Carbonara before I left for work.
What I love about this pasta is that it's so delicious and surprisingly easy to prepare.
All I needed was crushed garlic, bacon, cream sauce, and spaghetti.
LUNCH BOXThen I transferred the pasta into my plastic lunch box.
I kinda felt like a schoolgirl once again. When I had to bring
baon.
Only this time I have to make it in my own. :)
Now I'm all set to go to school.... I mean, work. :)

The Mutant Chronicles
Monday, October 13, 2008 / 3:08 AM
B and I have always loved Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later and its sequel, 28 Weeks Later. Since then, we would always watch out for similar movies like I Am Legend and The Invasion which gave us the same kind of scary thrill. But last Sunday, B and I watched a crappy zombie movie with a very poor story line. It's no wonder that it only has two screening times at the Powerplant. Then we were only about 20 in the big movie theater. B and I were utterly disappointed. The only thing I enjoyed in the movie was my cheesy beef Jamaican patty. :(

PS. There isn't even a line in the movie worth quoting. :(

Vroom Vroom!
Sunday, October 12, 2008 / 2:08 AM
When the car goes vroom vroom, Sophie sits still in her new car seat.
All buckled up and ready to hit the roads of Metro Manila. :)
ROAD TRIP TO FUN FARM
RIDE TO GYMBOREECar crashes are the number one cause of accidents in the world. In Canada, all children ages 5 and below are required by the government to use car seats while traveling on a vehicle. This law is strictly implemented without any exceptions. In Manila where road safety is at its worst, only a privileged few in the upper bracket invests on child car seats. Most babies and tots don't have their own car seats. Instead, these children sit, stand, and play on the laps of their mommies or yayas while the car is speeding down the road. Just what will happen to these babies and tots when a hard-impact collision suddenly happens? I dare not imagine. Thankfully, Sophie has her own car seat that doesn't only give her a comfortable ride but also safety and security. This matters so much to me coz the only thing in this world I would never risk is Sophie. :)

Mirrors
Saturday, October 11, 2008 / 5:08 AM
I almost forgot to share that I watched this horror film with my girlfriends last week. The thing about me is that I love to watch horror films but then I hate how I can't sleep well at night. In short, I love to scare myself even if I have to suffer later on. I also have this habit of screaming and shrieking and then grabbing the shirt of whoever I was sitting with. Thank God I have two sweet and understanding friends who sat by my left and right in the movies. And big thanks to B for being the life size pochim I can cuddle to whenever I feel scared at night. :)

Am I Becoming A Horrible Nagger?
Friday, October 10, 2008 / 3:32 AM
In the middle of my flaring temper over the mess that B created in our bedroom, a friend of mine told me that I have to stop nagging B coz men don't like wives who "mother" them around. And if I wanted our marriage to stay romantic and passionate, I have to accept and live with B's poor bedroom and bathroom habits. Coz apparently, men don't like to come home to nagging wives. Worse, a man doesn't wanna have sex with a woman who nag him like his mother. But do men realize that not one woman in this planet wants to be a nagger? I mean who in her sane mind would enjoy nagging? Not me. :(
My friends laughed when I told them about this. They said that men are men. Men are messy creatures. And if a man is tidy, then I should start having suspicions about his sexuality. Hahah! B told me that all women are naggers and that I was slowly becoming like my mom who is known to everyone as the queen of naggers. Oh my God! I hated my mom for nagging me all my life. Am I really becoming one myself? See I don't wanna be someone horrible. All I wanted was a tidy little home. Is that too much to ask? In the verge of bursting into tears, I collected myself and did a little research on this issue that has been rising between B and I for the past weeks.
WHY MEN DON'T HAVE A CLUE AND WOMEN ALWAYS NEED MORE SHOES
THE ULTIMATE GUIDE TO THE OPPOSITE SEX
by Barbara Pease & Allan Pease
NAG (verb) : to annoy, badger, bend someone's ear, berate, breathe down someone's neck, worry, harrass, hassle, henpeck, pester, plague, provoke, scold, torment Nagging is a term used almost exclusively by men to describe women.
Most women deny they nag. They see themselves as reminding the males in their lives to do the things that must be done: household chores, taking their medication, fixing broken things and picking up their mess. Some nagging is considered constructive. Where would many men be without a woman in their lives cajoling them not to drink too much beer and eat too much fast food and, if they can't stop, to make sure they exercise and take regular cholesterol tests? Nagging might even, at certain times, keep them alive.
If men nag, however, that's viewed very differently by society. Men are not naggers. They're assertive, they're leaders, and invariably they're passing on their wisdom—and gently reminding women of the path to take if they happen to forget along the way. Sure, they criticize, find fault, moan and complain, but it's always for the woman's benefit. The repetition of their advice, like "Read the map before you set off! How many times must I tell you?" and "Can't you make more of an effort with how you look when my friends come round?" shows admirable persistence and, above all, shows that they care.
Women, similarly, feel that nagging shows that they care, but men rarely see it in the same light. A woman will chide a man about throwing wet towels on the bed, peeling off his socks and leaving them all around the house, and not remembering to take out the garbage. She knows she's being irritating, but believes the way to get through to a man is by repeating, over and over, the same instructions until they one day, hopefully, sink in. She feels the things she's complaining about are based on truth so, while she knows she's being annoying, she feels justified in continuing. A woman's female friends won't see her as nagging either—they'll see the man as lazy or hard to handle and feel nothing but sympathy for his long-suffering partner.
But usually, when a woman starts repeating her orders, the male brain hears only one thing: nagging. Like a dripping tap, nagging wears away at his soul and can gradually build a simmering resentment. Men everywhere put nagging at the top of the list of their pet hates. In the USA alone, there are more than two thousand cases a year of men murdering their wives and claiming that their nagging drove them to it. In Hong Kong a husband who hit his wife on the head with a hammer, causing her brain damage, was given a reduced jail term by a judge who said he had been driven to violence by nagging.HOW THE NAGGER FEELS
The nagger always hopes their victim will be motivated into some positive action by being made to feel guilty. They hope he'll be spurred into action, if not by realizing he is in the wrong, then maybe simply to stop the tirade. Women know they nag, but that doesn't mean they enjoy it. Usually they're only doing it as a means to an end.
Some women have turned nagging into an art form. We have identified five basic nags:
THE SINGLE SUBJECT NAG: "Kurt, how about taking out the trash?" A pause. "Kurt, you said you'd take out the trash." Another five minutes later. "What about that trash, Kurt? It's still sitting there."
THE MULTIPLE NAG: "The grass in front of the house looks a mess, Bob, the doorknob is falling off the bedroom door, and the back window is still stuck. When are you going to wash the car and . . ."
THE BENIFICIAL NAG: "Have you taken your pills today, Ray? And stop eating that pizza—it's bad for your cholesterol and weight . . ."
THE THIRD-PARTY NAG: "Well, Moira says Shane has already got their BBQ cleaned out and they're having people over tomorrow. Summer will be finished at the rate you're going."
THE ADVANCE NAG: "Well, I hope you're going to watch your drinking tonight, Dale. We don't want a repeat of last year's fiasco."
Usually, women laugh hardest at these descriptions. They recognize themselves and their words, but still they see no real alternative.
When nagging gets out of hand, the nagger's relationships with others can really suffer. Men may ignore her even more, which will only fuel her irritation and, sometimes, rage. She may end up feeling alone and may become resentful and miserable. When it gets out of hand, it's been known to destroy relationships completely.
HOW THE VICTIM FEELS
From a male standpoint, nagging is a continual, indirect, negative reminder about the things he hasn't done, or about his shortcomings. It happens mainly at the end of the day when a man needs fire-gazing time.
The more the nagger nags, the more the victim retreats behind the kind of defensive barriers that drive the nagger crazy. These barriers include newspapers, computers, homework, a gloomy face, amnesia, apparent deafness and TV remote controls. No one likes being on the receiving end of subdued rage, ambiguous messages, self-pity and blame or having guilt continually thrust at them. Everyone avoids the nagger, leaving her alone and feeling resentful. When she starts feeling even more trapped, unrecognized and isolated, the victim may suffer even more.
The more the nagger nags, the more isolated she becomes.
The only real outcome from nagging is the destruction of the relationship between the nagger and the victim because the victim feels he has to continually defend himself.

PS. I really wanna go back to the time when B and I were still dating.

Definitely Maybe

WILL: Will you, umm, marry me? APRIL: No! What do you mean... "Will you, umm, marry me?"
I haven't seen you in weeks! You don't look happy about the prospect of our marriage!
You're asking me to give up my... my freedom... my joie de vivre...
For an institution that fails as often as it succeeds?
And why should I marry you anyway?
I mean, why do you wanna marry me?
Besides some bourgeois desire to fulfill an ideal
That society embeds in us to promote a consumer capitalist agenda? WILL: Oh! Oh, my God!APRIL: You should've got on your knee. WILL: Just shut up! Here... I wanna marry you because...
You're the first person I wanna look at when I wake up in the morning
And the only one I wanna kiss goodnight
Because the first time that I saw these hands
I couldn't imagine not being able to hold them
But mainly, when you love someone as much as I love you
Getting married is the only thing left to do
So, will you, um, marry me? APRIL: Definitely. Maybe. Labels: movies

Officially A Teacher
Wednesday, October 8, 2008 / 1:00 AM
I HAVE A BIG NEWS...
I AM OFFICIALLY A PRE-SCHOOL TEACHER AT GYMBOREE! :)

It all happened so fast! Just when I thought nothing happened to my application, I was called for an interview last Friday. It was a rather different kind of interview because I had to perform before the Gymboree team. I had to close my eyes as I sang one of my favorite song from the Carpenters. I had the softest voice in the group of applicants. I even trembled as I sang. Sure, I love to sing but I was always the girl who has stage fright back in school. So I wasn't feeling very optimistic at all. But to my surprise, I received a call a couple of days after and I was given an offer. B claims that it is far better than my paycheck when I worked at China Bank before we got married. Considering that I only work about 3-4 times a week (halfdays) in Gymboree. And guess what? Sophie gets to go with me at work. I didn't even know that I have this liberty until the Gymboree site manager encouraged me to bring Sophie. Now Sophie gets to enjoy all the play, music, and art classes at Gymboree for free! How wonderful is that? :)
CRAWLING IN THE TUNNEL
PARACHUTE RIDEI'm all ecstatic and excited! I can't believe I am going back to work after staying at home for 3 years now. And guess what? I begin tomorrow at 8 am. I wonder what I shall wear tomorrow. I should be sleeping now. I forgot what it was like to wake up at 6 am. I will definitely make double alarms. See you all in Gymboree at the Manila Polo Club! :)PS. You probably thought I am pregnant. Not yet. :)

Secret Recipe
Tuesday, October 7, 2008 / 3:45 AM
Secret Recipe has been in the list of restaurants Pam and I would love to try.
Last Wednesday, Pam and I finally crossed out this restaurant from our list.
SECRET RECIPEThere were only a few main course meals to choose from in the menu.
Nothing extra-ordinary, really. :)
PUMPKIN SOUPI ordered a bowl of pumpkin soup.
There was a hint of curry in the soup that I love.
PAN-GRILLED DORY WITH LOBSTER SAUCETo Eileen's dismay, the dory was overcooked and slightly burnt.
She was also disappointed that she couldn't taste the lobster sauce.
More like mushroom sauce. :(
CHICKEN CORDON BLEU
Pam ordered the bestseller of the restaurant, Chicken Cordon Bleu.
But Pam was shocked that the cordon bleu looked overfried and overcooked.
It was entirely different from the photo in the menu.
GRILLED MUSHROOM CHICKENThen I ordered grilled chicken with special mushroom sauce.
First, I was disappointed with the presentation of my meal.
I was even more disappointed that the chicken wasn't thoroughly cooked. :(
MARBLE CHEESECAKEFor desserts, we chose Secret Recipe's award-winning Marble Cheesecake. To our disappointment, the slice of cake was too slender for its price. The cake was good but nothing special, really.Pam, Eileen, and I were indeed very disappointed with this restaurant. We felt like we did not get the value of our money at all. Especially, with the ultra thin slice of cheesecake. We also find the service bad with waiters that still lack training. When we asked for our bill, we requested to split it coz we wanted to pay separately by our credit cards. But we were informed that they do not accept credit cards for transactions less than P500. According to Eileen and B, this kind of policy is illegal. So let's just wait till a lawyer dines in this restaurant. We girls left the restaurant muttering about Secret Recipe's food and service. Pam said, "They better keep their secret!" :(* * * * *
